Head of Commercial Operations

We are looking for a commercially astute leader with an entrepreneurial approach to identifying business opportunities to head our Commercial team.

The Head of Commercial Operations will lead all aspects of and develop strategies for the commercial operations functions within the Beacon Commercial Operations strategic business unit:

•Central Billing

•Customer Support

•E-Business

•Services development

They work with Beacon Senior Management Team (SMT) colleagues in Sales and Marketing to develop new, and improve existing, central services to deliver against the business unit’s strategic goals.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

•Responsible for the effective strategic leadership of the Commercial Operations function within Beacon, effectively communicating strategy and ensuring that the appropriate operational and tactical actions are taken towards successful delivery of income-generating and cost-management activities to support financial and delivery targets

•Working closely with Beacon MD, Senior Management Team (SMT) colleagues and the Commercial Operations management team, develop an annual rolling business plan and quarterly detailed plans with proposed budget and monthly forecast of departmental costs and income

•Maintaining strong commercial and industry knowledge including monitoring and assessing market influences, risks/opportunities and other factors which could affect the success of the Beacon SBU

•Overseeing the development of additional central services supporting the delivery of net profit targets, improved margins/yield, and revisions to product portfolio – in keeping with the brand re-positioning of Beacon from consortium to business solutions provider

•Research and develop new commercial services to be delivered from centre – directly or through managed collaboration with third parties – that could further enhance Beacon value to suppliers/customers in support of new business generation, customer retention and profitability targets

•Oversee the development, analysis and effectiveness of the Commercial function (category and product pricing analysis, reporting, customer proposals) methodology and results, implementing new approaches where appropriate in order to improve conversion levels

•Review the team’s analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of supplier deals and category coverage (conducted through bench marking, purchase ledger evaluations and pricing analysis) recommending changes to Beacon purchasing / sales strategy and focus

•Strategic development of the Central Billing service including development of a more flexible payment collection and remittance model to meet customer / supplier requirements and increase service uptake

•Develop a business systems strategy to support the Beacon vision and strategic business objectives, enabling it to keep pace with competitors in providing market-leading solutions for both customers & suppliers in areas of e-procurement, online marketplace, spend profiling and website

•Lead the team in delivering project management oversight to ensure the design, deployment and ongoing development of in-house or outsourced business systems which meet the reasonable needs of users (customers, suppliers and colleagues)

•Negotiate and manage designated supplier agreements with third parties supporting the Commercial Operations function – including but not limited to Beacon’s Central Billing service provider – including negotiation and ongoing management of KPIs and service levels, contractual obligations, change control processes, budgeting/forecasting of expenditure and invoice payment in line with ICH protocols

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The role holder will have previous experience of leading a diverse team of different business functions. They will also have a successful track record of budgeting and forecasting. Experience of drafting and reviewing service level agreements is also essential. As an effective change manager they will be able to build an environment in which change is welcomed and embraced, ensuring a team morale and value-driven culture is maintained

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE

Essential

•Educated to degree level, professional qualification or with equivalent professional experience

Desirable

•Knowledge of business systems including P2P/e-procurement, management information, SRM and CRM systems

•MCIPS
